Transmission Inspection in the TX Hill Country

SEnergy recently completed a comprehensive inspection and condition assessment of 69kV transmission line. This inspection was approximately 17.9 miles in length between Utopia and Leakey, Texas. The project involved a detailed pole-by-pole evaluation of 155 structures, utilizing a GPS-linked ESRI database to document multiple photos and condition ratings for each structure. Key components such as poles, crossarms where present, bracing, insulators, shield wires, and guy/anchor systems were thoroughly assessed. In addition, the team identified and recorded any distribution under-builds, communication lines, and easement concerns.

To further enhance the assessment, SEnergy conducted aerial drone inspections to capture high-resolution imagery of each structure’s critical elements. The final deliverables included a comprehensive inspection report and a visual map-based summary of the inspection. Our team provided the Client with a clear, actionable overview of the line’s current condition.

Notably, during the inspection, our team identified several critical issues- including broken glass insulators and other cracked insulators, that could have led to costly outages or safety hazards if left unaddressed. Our recommendations based on these findings aligned with NESC Standards and underwent review by our Professional Engineers.

By catching these issues early, SEnergy helped the Client avoid potential service disruptions, reduce emergency repair costs, and plan targeted remediation efforts. Our final deliverables included a comprehensive inspection report, annotated imagery, and a strategic summary to guide next steps.

This transmission inspection project is a clear example of how routine inspections can reveal hidden risks- and how SEnergy’s expertise turns those insights into action.
